KISS ARE COMING IN DECEMBER!!! Plus, More LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS & A New Local Band!

Now who would have guessed that October 7th would deliver not one, but two HUGE (I repeat: HUGE) LOCAL CONCERT ALERTS? Well, I know what's on the tip of everyone's tongue, let's not waste anymore time! (Please keep reading for two more upcoming concerts, one involving a major out of town band, plus a newly found local band!)

KISS. ARE. COMING. IN. DECEMBER!!! The multi-platinum hard rock legends will hit Sault Ontario for the first time ever on Tuesday, December 15th, at The Essar Center, with special guests Buckcherry as openers! The proof is on Kiss' official website's tour listings, where we are among 5 additional dates tacked on to the end of this first leg of the tour! Ticket details are yet to be announced, but I guarantee you, as soon as we hear word, I'll tell you all you need to know! As you're likely very well aware, we got this show as a result of finishing third in the Kiss fan-routed tour competition, finishing only behind Oshawa and Winnipeg! For additional proof, head to SooToday, they picked up on this news pretty quickly themselves!

Well guys, you wanted the best, and you got the best! After a lot of debates of whether Kiss would keep their word, if Susan Myers' opinions would count against the show, why we weren't on the first tour leg, if we could even support a Kiss show, and so on, we can finally put any rumours and skepticism to rest for good. And through it all, everyone who complained that we aren't on the first tour leg has their wish. This show is in the first leg, we won't have to wait until spring. Whether or not you're satisfied with the road it took to get to this announcement, one thing's for sure: Kiss are coming, and it will be one hell of a concert! I hope to make it to this show, and hopefully all you Kiss fans can too! Same for you Buckcherry fans, they often get overlooked when we talk about this show, but remember, they're opening, and are a good band, so pencil them in to your plans too!

Well, I never thought I'd hear the Kiss concert date announced tonight, especially when just hours before, there was ANOTHER LOCAL CONCERT ALERT of some major note! Multi-platinum hard rock band Papa Roach are coming to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan! Best known for hits like "Last Resort", "Lifeline", and "Forever", they will make their Sault area debut on November 2nd at The Dreammakers Theater at Kewadin Casino! Short notice for a major show like this, but I have no doubt it will be a success! Doors open at 6:00 PM that night with a 7:00 PM start time, with no announced openers.

Are tickets on sale? Yes, actually, for the very affordable cost of $26.50! If you wanna get a ticket to see Papa Roach, you can buy online at this location, call 1-800-KEWADIN (539-2346), or head to the GraphixTwo box office near A&W on Great Northern Road in Sault Ontario! Personally, and I'm being honest here, I don't like Papa Roach as much now as I used to. I much preferred their early material. I love the "Infest" album, nothing can top it. But it should be a good show, and who knows, maybe I'll go, but we'll see! Also, check out SooToday's report on this concert at this location! (So we have Papa Roach, Ace Frehley, Three Days Grace, AND Kiss to end the year. How about that?)

Alright, the two major shows are out of the way. I hope this doesn't get lost in the shuffle, but there is one more LOCAL CONCERT ALERT! Local metal guitarist Tym Morrison (of Caveman Morrison fame) has scheduled another acoustic show for The Bottoms Up Lounge! This show will take place November 21st at 10:00 PM, with what I believe to be no admission price. He'll break out a wide ranging set of covers of metal and other genres, maybe some stuff from his solo album too, who knows! Check out the Facebook event page at this location! Should be a good concert, his album is well done, expect a review of that on the SMS next year!

There we go, you're all caught up on concerts, for now! Now, to cap off this post, I have located another new local band to add to the SMS listings! Well, old is more appropriate, this band's been inactive for 7 years. Maybe you remember them if you were big into the local scene in the early 2000s! They were SIGHdEFECT (get it, it sounds like "side effect"?), a local hard rock band featuring a few local notables, including frontman Justin Langlois (The Scary Uncles), bassist Jason Bourcier (Operation Killdozer & Fitswitch), guitarist Adam Smith, and drummer Matt Waples (Destroilet)!

SIGHdEFECT formed in 2001, had a metal/hard rock vibe with some rap and old school influences (interesting), and described themselves as having "a unique sound that you MUST experience live in concert." Sounds good to me, it'd definitely be interesting hearing Justin Langlois sing metal, and rap too! Their page was off of Angelfire, and was under construction at last update, so it's really dated as far as webpages go. But there's still a band bio, photos, and original song lyrics to check out! See, this is another reason why I love working on the SMS, SIGHdEFECT are another buried treasure that deserves proper recognition! Check them out at their official website!

So there goes one of the more eventful posts in SMS history! I mean, finding out that Kiss AND Papa Roach are coming here for separate shows on THE SAME DAY? Man, that's cool. Nice to see us getting back on track for major metal shows in this town! Well, I'll keep you guys posted on all the news you need to know, as usual, stay tuned for updates and everything else! Thanks everyone!

(P.S., Notice that Ace Frehley's playing here around one month before Kiss do? Good time to be a Kiss fan in the Soo, huh?)
