SMS YouTube Channel & CD Review Updates!

Hey guys, no news to report today...yet, but I did wanna update everyone on some Sault Metal Scene-related projects. More specifically, our YouTube channel and our monthly CD reviews! So yeah, here's what I thought you should know!

First, Youtube. Now I already told you guys I can post videos on there now thanks to my new modem, and I started with the Gates of Winter EP. Well, I've uploaded a few more videos, which are basically picture videos of songs by broken up local bands like Downfall, Sin Stereo, and Renderware. Bio information and links to their pages are given too (they get absolute full credit!) Remember, I will only upload a full song if you CAN'T buy it online or in disc form. I want you guys to support local bands wherever possible. But I'm also gonna upload actual videos where possible, hopefully starting with a clip or two from the Sykotyk Rampage concert on the 16th!

And also, I plan on porting some local metal videos onto YouTube from Google Video, which is no longer used as a video upload site, so a lot of really good clips are sitting there not getting the attention they deserve. This includes not one, but TWO FULL Gates of Winter performances from shows in 2006! I'm not gonna upload them today, I don't wanna overload videos too quickly, but they have some great songs that should reach a wider audience, including Gates covering a Children of Bodom song! I'll keep you guys posted, but please, add us or subscribe to us on Youtube, more videos are in the works!

And now, some updates on the Local Metal CD Review series on the SMS! I've swapped the reviews for Sykotyk Rampage and Woods of Ypres albums, as I've learned through Woods of Ypres' official forum that "Woods IV: The Green Album" likely won't be out in October, and from what I heard, Sykotyk Rampage's show in two weeks is a CD release show. Keep in mind, this is tentative. If the new Sykotyk Rampage album won't be out this month, I have a backup plan, but we'll approach that when it comes up.

As for reviews past November, we're well covered! Last night, I bought a whole bunch of new local band albums online, including Clownsack's debut "Rotten Candy", Tym Morrison's solo album "Solo Project", Integrated System of Machine's album "Apocalyptic Vision", and Sykotyk Rampage's very first album, "Baked Brain Tumour On Toast"! I bought all LEGALLY through either CDBaby, eMusic, or SoundClick in mp3 format (except Clownsack's album, that's getting mailed as a CD.) I will review all throughout 2010, maybe sooner, so stay tuned! Add those to ones I already had, including all of Woods of Ypres albums & "Lux Aeterna" (among others), and the upcoming album releases from a whole bunch of local bands, and we're good for monthly reviews well into 2011!

But I do have an open request for help from you guys. There are a few local metal band albums that I know exist, I know were released, but I don't have in my possession or at an easy access point. If you can help me obtain them, PLEASE LET ME KNOW! They are:

Aftersight's first album, Waiting For Lightning. EDIT: I have this album now! Thanks to Glen Thomas for the help!

Detroit's first album, Let The Hammers Fly. Even though they're still active and playing shows, I can't find a single place online to buy it. It exists, songs from it are on their MySpace page, and Northern Rocks Magazine reviewed it, but I can't find a copy of it anywhere! Can you help?

Fitswitch
's EP, Rust Angel. I wasn't big into the local scene when this limited-release EP came out, and not all of the songs from it are online to help with a complete review. I'd love to get my hands on it or the songs from it, cause I've been a Fitswitch fan for years and would love to take a look at it as a review!

Infrastrate's debut album, Phase I: Commencement. You guys remember them? They were active in the Sault in the mid-2000s before moving to Ottawa, where they recorded and released this album. Some songs are online, but I haven't found them all or a place to buy the album itself. I know they broke up and the album's probably out of print, but I'd appreciate getting at least the songs off of it for review purposes!

Can anyone help me out? I am willing to pay to get these albums in CD or mp3 format, I would pay anyway if they were still on sale! The same goes for any other local metal discs I don't know about, if you guys know of a local metal album I should review on the SMS, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!! E-mail me at robfigures@hotmail.com if you can help me out!

And finally, one more request: Could you guys please suggest to your friends on Facebook to become fans of The Sault Metal Scene's page? We peaked at 247 fans, but have since dropped to 244. Not a good sign, especially when so many people wanted me to keep the SMS on Facebook. So spread the word, invite your friends, help us out! The more fans, the better!!! That's all for today, I'll have more news in the next couple days, so stay tuned! Thanks everyone for the continued support!
