Local Concert Previews Have Returned! (Sykotyk Rampage & Garden of Bedlam)

They're baaaaaack! After last weekend's surprising lack of any metal concerts, there's some this time around! So after two weeks of waiting, here are your local concert previews for this weekend!

Before I start, I did have two shows in Sault Michigan to share, but it looks like they've been called off. Spliff69, a hard rock band from Canton Michigan, were supposed to play two shows tonight; an acoustic show at The Peacock Cove at LSSU, and a normal electric concert at The Satisfied Frog. However, they've removed both shows from their tour dates on their official MySpace page, and I haven't heard anything at LSSU about the first show, so it looks like they're off. But if I hear anything different, my advance apologies!!!

So onto the two shows that are definitely a go for this weekend! And first, there's a local band like no other returning to the local scene tomorrow night! "Blue Chinese metal crash punk" band Sykotyk Rampage will play their first concert in almost six months when they headline a BScN fundraiser/toga party/concert at The Outback at Sault College (which is now listed in the Concert Venue info section on the left of the page!) Support will come from reunited local hard rock band Dysfunkshunal Kemistry, who feature Sykotyk Rampage bassist Brian Cattapan and ex-Driving Dave Home drummer Steve Brogno in their lineup! This concert starts at 9:00 PM, with an admission price of $3 in advance, $5 at the door! You must be 19 to attend, and if you're not a Sault College student, you must have one sign you in. Confirm your attendance to this show by visiting the official Facebook event page!

I recommend hitting this concert! You can support our future nurses, enter a toga contest (if you want), and of course, rock out! Dysfunkshunal Kemistry sound solid, they should be good! But as for Sykotyk Rampage, you've really gotta see them to get the full experience of their sound! They play completely improvised hard rock with very strange (yet creative) lyrics, with influences from many different genres! Some songs delve into trippy crazy realms, and many are not "G rated". But believe me, they're one of a kind, and you gotta see them to believe them! I've heard that this show could be a CD release show, or have details on their upcoming 22nd album, we'll have to see! Check out dozens of their original songs at their official Soundclick page! And for a preview, here's a video for their song "Drinking On The Weekend"!

Also, if you want a preview of their new album, head to Sykotyk Rampage's official page on OurStage, where they've uploaded a sampling of BRAND NEW SONGS! They're just as I was expecting them to sound, which is good! I'll hold from major critiquing until the album comes out though.

Finally, Garden of Bedlam are BACK! These metal giants will play their first show since Hempfest on Saturday night, at the newly renovated Canadian Nightclub! To my knowledge, this is the first hard rock/metal show there since the renovations, and it will definitely be interesting to see how it looks now! Support will come from rising local death/thrash metal band Bring The Fallen, in their first concert since August's Woods of Ypres show! Doors open at 10:00 PM on Saturday, with Bring The Fallen kicking things off at 11:00! Admission is a flat $5 at the door! Garden of Bedlam merchandise will be on sale! Like with the Sykotyk Rampage show, you must be 19 to attend. Confirm your attendance for this concert as well by visiting it's official Facebook event page!

Both bands are fucking awesome, in my humble opinion! Bring The Fallen bring face melting thrash metal with intense death/grind vocals, it's a great mix! Check out some of the original material off of their upcoming EP "Stand Before" at their MySpace page! And then there's your headliners, Garden of Bedlam. What more could I say about these guys, I've praised them endlessly for months! Great sound, catchy and heavy all at once, excellent stuff. Don't take my word for it, check out songs from their debut EP at their official MySpace page! Here's hoping their new album is as good as the EP, if not better! For a preview, check out this live video of Garden of Bedlam playing their song "The Truth Shall Set You Free" from last year's Hempfest!

So there's your concerts for this weekend! I will be at BOTH the Sykotyk Rampage and Woods of Ypres shows, I'm a fan of both bands and wouldn't miss either for the world! And yes, I'll try to have free SMS CDs at both! My computer ink's been running a bit low lately, hopefully I'll be able to print enough labels! And before I cap today's post, a huge thanks to Lion Ride frontman/Detroit drummer Mikey Hawdon for hooking me up with a copy of Detroit's debut album "Let The Hammers Fly! One more album off of my local CD wishlist! I will review it in 2010 on the SMS (not sure when, I have things well scheduled though!) Now if you guys can help me obtain "Kill The Music, Save The Children" by As It Stands, "Rust Angel" by Fitswitch, or "Phase I: Commencement" by Infrastrate, I would be very grateful!

That's all for today, I'll see you guys tomorrow if I have any news! If not then, check the SMS on Saturday for my review of the Sykotyk Rampage show! Thanks everyone!
