Six more shows in 2010 for you Sault Michiganders, as Peril are coming back to the area! They are scheduled to return to The Rapids Lounge at Kewadin Casino on the weekends of February 26-27, March 12-13, and June 18-19! Each show is scheduled to take place at 9:00 PM! Now the March dates do conflict with already scheduled shows from locals Nixxon Dixxon, but I haven't heard anything of this being a joint show, so I'll keep you posted if anything changes! Nice to see Peril scheduling more shows at Kewadin, they're a great band, maybe I can finally see them next year after I turn 21! Next, an update to the upcoming Garden of Bedlam/Bring The Fallen concert on October 17th: Ticket prices have been announced, and they will be just $5! Very affordable, wouldn't you say? Also, according to their Facebook group, The Canadian actually offered Garden of Bedlam this show, which is nice of them! Remember, The Canadian recently underwent very extensive renovations, so you may not even recognize the place when you get there! Merchandise will be on sale, the alcohol will flow (remember, it's 19+), and if you can make it, I hope to see you there!Before we get to some videos, I have a couple quick news items to run through, so here's what else you need to know!
- An event page for the upcoming Three Days Grace concert at The Essar Center has been launched. It's created by a fan and pretty minimal at present, but why not confirm your attendance and show your support? If you wanna visit the event page, click here! I'm going to this show, are you?
- Kincheloe hard rockers Silent Despair have posted a couple new demos on their official MySpace page; one of just drummer Mike Rynberg and one featuring ex-keyboardist Sam Lalruatpuia by himself. Interesting, but it'd be nice to hear a more complete band. Check out the demos at this location!
- I've added a new message board to the Local Metal Message Boards section on the right of the page, and it's the inactive forum for inactive locals Renderware! It mostly had band-related discussion, but there's a bit of general local music talk as well! Interesting look back, check it out at this location!
- I NEED YOUR HELP! I have one more local metal CD that I'd love to get my hands on! In 2007, inactive hardcore band As It Stands released an EP, entitled "Kill The Music, Save The Children". I believe it's out of print now, and I can't find the full album anywhere. IF YOU HAVE IT, LET ME KNOW! I'd love to review it on the SMS in the coming months! Any help would be much appreciated!
Now, here's some stuff I uploaded, for the sole purpose of exposing little-heard music to the masses! NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT IS INTENDED! I uploaded three more songs I had onto YouTube today, including "Three Cheers For Brock Lesnar" by inactive hardcore band As It Stands, the original studio demo of "Torment" by Gates of Winter from the Lux Aeterna demo, and "Casual Nexus" by Sault natives Infrastrate! Check them all out at the official Sault Metal Scene Youtube Channel, they deserve lots of hits, to get these songs well deserved recognition!
But here's why I really wanted to mention the videos: I've recently been in contact with noted local drummer Glen Thomas, who you may recognize from a pile of local bands, like Flat Stanley, Fingerbang, The Rainhorses, Wishbone, and Route 69, among many others! His body of work isn't entirely metal, but he's a great and accomplished musician, and he's been really kind and respectful to me and the SMS! And he was kind enough to send me a bunch of local metal music from the past, including the 2003 album from local hard rock band Aftersight, "Waiting For Lightning"! There's one album off of my wishlist, and you can guarantee I'll be reviewing it in the coming months!
Besides that, Glen sent me some songs from way back in the day from the Sault's 80s music scene! He sent me 5 songs from one of his old bands, Driver, who you may remember from me mentioning them on the SMS in June! I was really intrigued by them, and now I have some songs! They had a bunch of covers of bands like ZZ Top and Van Halen, as well as an original entitled "Alone Anymore", which you can see below! The other is from another inactive local band named Tikkanen, featuring guitarist Paul Tikkanen (pictured), who still plays guitar in Southern Ontario to this day. Definite Rush-like sound to Tikkanen, and they definitely had talent! Check out their song "Rollin' Daze" below as well! Thanks to Glen Thomas for all the songs!It's stuff like this that make me glad I started the SMS, I learn so much the further I take it, and whenever I discover a new band, song, or an interesting fact from Sault metal's past, I'm always happy to share it with you guys! I saw this guy, Glen Thomas working at Walmart. Did not know he was so talented.
He plays in a lot of bands? I heard he was fired from some bands too because of his ego.
This guy has always been a bit strange. He went to Lakeway when I was there. Man he changed over the years. He rides his bike everywhere like the 40-year old virgin.

I worked for Glen and his wife years ago when they owned The Garden Path Florist. They were both awesome people. He's a very good drummer and artist. Glen had a teaching studio for drums upstairs over the flower shop
and overtime he got me into some really great heavy music. When I worked for them during holiday time over a 3 year period doing deliveries, Glen and his wife donated a drumset to Christmas Cheer every year I was there. I'm sure they still do that as they loved doing it. They had big hearts and made some kids really happy. I never saw any ego or strangeness in either of them so I don't believe the negatives I see posted. I think the negative is all hear say. Thanks for posting some local metal history Rob.
